Due to its unique molecular construction, the antioxidative (protective) activity of astaxanthin is 10-12 times higher than that of beta-carotene, and 500-550 times higher than that of and vitamin Е («vitamin of youth»). Low molar weight and good solubility in fats allow astaxanthin to effectively protect an organism from the destructive influence of free radicals.
Free radicals render toxic influence on the cell level, breaking the structure of vitally important molecules: fatty polyunsaturated acids, proteins, nucleic acids.
